Tiffany Walsh (she/her) - No Need for Ceremony

A Red River Métis (Michif), born and raised in Treaty 1 Territory, the heart of the Red River Métis Homeland, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Tiffany currently lives in West Kelowna, B.C., as a guest on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan people, where she works in Indigenous Education and Advocacy.

She is a mother of two daughters and holds History Honours and Education degrees from the University of Winnipeg, and a Law degree (Juris Doctor) from the University of Chicago.

No Need for Ceremony is Tiffany's first book. It is a work of fiction inspired by a vision she had of her Gramma's floating head. The story is a dreamscape about her Indigenous identity, her fascination with Métis hero Louis Riel, and the loss of her father. Like most tales, it blends elements of fact and fiction, the personal and the universal, woven throughout.

What if you saw Louis Riel's head floating down the street?

Riding her bike one hot summer afternoon, a Red River Métis woman named T-Bird sees Louis Riel's head floating down the street. T-Bird had seen Riel's head once before when she was a little girl, and she ran away. But when she notices Riel's head this time, T-Bird chases him down and discovers that Riel is a living artist.

T-Bird's magical afternoon encounter with Louis Riel changes her life forever. Through his vivid paintings and gentle compassion, Riel helps her confront the pain and beauty of Red River Métis history and of her own life.

Murray Gillespie - A Wild Life

As children, many of us dream of venturing into the vast northern tundra, racing down raging rivers in canoes, and sitting around campfires on the shores of the Arctic Ocean while keeping a keen eye out for polar bears. For most people, those childhood fantasies drift away as life intervenes. But not for Murray Gillespie.

Growing up in Macdonald, Manitoba, Murray was surrounded by the stories of generations of hunters and trappers in his family. His curiosity drew the attention of a local naturalist who once set the broken leg of Murray's pet crow and later became his mentor in the ways of the natural world. Murray spent his childhood exploring the forests and wetlands around him. In such a rich setting, his interest in nature grew into a passion that shaped a lifetime in the wild.

Over his 45 years with Wildlife Services, Murray lived in some of the most remote and spectacular parts of Canada. From the shores of Hudson Bay to the high Arctic, Murray traveled by canoe, bush plane, snowmobile, and on foot as he worked to protect the wildlife he loved. The work came with challenges. Lost bush pilots, propane explosions, and a poorly judged canoe expedition that nearly took his life never dimmed his drive to observe and appreciate the natural world.

Along the way, he crossed paths with countless memorable characters, human and animal alike. There was the Coke loving arctic fox, the polar bear that punched a hole through a helicopter windshield, and swarms of black flies so thick their bites turned his beard red.

Murray's stories carry an unmistakable authenticity and a deep affection for the land he devoted his life to. They capture our connection to the wild and the ways it shapes us. This book is filled with compelling stories that take you to places you imagined as a child. When you finish reading, it feels like you have finally been there.

Victoria Perrie - Daanis the Judge

Victoria Perrie is a Métis Cree artist, educator, and lawyer who believes in the power of stories to create change. She grew up in Winnipeg and still lives there, although you can often find her working as a lawyer in Nunavut.

When she is not in the courtroom, Victoria spends her time writing stories and performing in plays. This is her first children's book, and it certainly will not be her last.

This story follows a young girl named Daanis. She brings judge's tabs to school for show and tell and tells her classmates about her idol, Supreme Court Justice Michelle O'Bonsawin.

Daanis shares her dream of one day becoming a judge, just like her idol.
